Ak Dağ late spring
Highly respected freelance photographer Faruk Akbaş chooses to live in Kaya Koy, Fethiye on the South West Coast of Turkey. Faruk's documentary and photo assignments have taken him to Afghanistan, China, Siberia, Mongolia, India and Nepal though his love of Turkey is central to his work. Photography has enabled him to travel the length and breadth of the country capturing its many faces for his books magazines, film and TV.
Faruk, a charismatic artist, photographer, film/documentary maker and academic teaches at Universities in Turkey and is the FujiFilm (Turkey) sponsored professional; his reputation is renowned. No stranger to awards, Faruk has been honoured by: the Turkish Ministry of Culture, the British Council, The Chinese Photography Federation, The Human Rights Society and the Abdi Ipekci Peace Awards. A photographic competition judge he also publishes images and texts in a variety of genre.
We are very fortunate to have secured Faruk to guide our special exclusive holiday/workshops. Assistance and a desire to get you to look, frame and successfully capture an image is the goal. Faruk will give you help with camera technique from ISO to white balance; appropriate lenses to use of tripods, his teaching will facilitate and support you as an individual.
This is a workshop-holiday for photographers where Faruk will guide you to and through a broad range of subjects; taking you to various locations where colour and light will be your palette. Faruk's knowledge of Turkey, its stunning locations and especially its diverse peoples provides a unique chance for photographers to share his experience.
Charming, persuasive, focussed and determined, Faruk is able to get to places in photography of which many of us only dream, particularly on a holiday. He keeps numbers low to ensure you maximise the experience.

All our photographers appreciate his ability to "see" a photo opportunity. Don't be surprised if he suddenly stops the car and attracts you to a passing chameleon, a hidden wild orchid or a lone shepherd wandering a field of poppies. An artist, Faruk has founded two Art Projects one in Istanbul Fotografevi and another in Kaya Koy. You may have seen his images recently used in the Craghoppers ads in the Sunday supplements.
Faruk is also well respected by the huge family of Turkish photographers and well known to readers of Yolculuk (Journey) the magazine of the largest trans-Turkey long distance bus comapnay Kamil Koc where he is the staff photographer and Artistic director. In October 2007 Kamil Koc celebrated his photographs with a full scale exhibition of 80 of his published images on top of Baba Dag (Father mountain) a 2000m high peak at Olu Deniz. Coupled with the opening of the International Air Games and followed by another exhibition on the beach, thousands of visitors had a perfect opportunity to see his brilliant work. Photography in Turkey is very popular, the skills of the photogarphers there are not well known outside Turkey but there is a movement to change this situation. PhotoLycia is proud to be part of that movement.
Faruk does not crowd you, criticise or give feedback without being asked for an opinion and most importantly is always willing to learn from you.
Whether you are looking for challenge or support you will find Faruk Akbas a perfect fit to your needs.
